The Westgate Development is a transformative €45 million commercial office campus in Knocknacarra, Galway, spearheaded by McDonogh Capital Investments, a subsidiary of the longstanding Galway-based firm Thomas McDonogh & Sons Limited. This project aims to address the significant shortage of modern office space on the west side of Galway City, providing a state-of-the-art working environment for up to 1,500 professionals.

Location & Vision

Situated on a 3.5-acre site adjacent to Brooklawn House in Galway Business Park, the Westgate campus is strategically located along Bóthar Stiofáin, near the junction with Rahoon Road. This area, comparable in size to Athlone, has historically lacked dedicated office infrastructure. The development seeks to cater to professionals desiring to work closer to home, thereby reducing cross-city commutes and enhancing work-life balance

Designed by the acclaimed BKD Architects Westgate comprises three architecturally distinct office blocks:

  • An eight-storey building encompassing 7,330 square meters

  • A six-storey structure covering 4,445 square meters

  • A four-storey edifice with 2,875 square meters

The development also includes a surface car park with 167 spaces and facilities for 216 bicycles, promoting sustainable commuting options.

Planning & Community Engagement

Planning permission for Westgate was granted by An Bord Pleanala in Spring 2025.  To foster transparency and community involvement, McDonogh Capital Investments hosted a public information evening at the Clybaun Hotel in February 2024. This event provided residents with the opportunity to engage directly with the development team, view detailed plans, and voice their opinions.

Design & Sustainability

The Westgate campus is envisioned as a modern, sustainable workspace that aligns with contemporary environmental standards. All buildings will be designed to LEED Gold standard, and the project's emphasis on bicycle facilities and reduced car dependency reflects a commitment to eco-friendly design principles.
